Archaeologist

Mia Kleehammer

Mia Kleehammer is an Archaeologist who has recently completed her undergraduate degree at La Trobe University, Melbourne. Now studying her Master’s, Mia is diving deep into landscape archaeology and traditional land management practices in Australia. Her research will consider the debate surrounding naturally occurring versus anthropogenic/cultural charcoal in the archaeological record, and whether the two can be distinguished from one another through a combined analysis of geomorphological and environmental processes.

With a strong academic foundation in Australian Indigenous archaeology, Mia has skills in lithic and animal bone analysis, site identification, and historical artefact management, including the analyisis of ceramic, glass, and brick artefacts. Her practical experience includes mapping, archaeological survey, and both manual and mechanical salvage excavation. Mia’s passion for heritage management and stakeholder consultation is evident in her work.

Outside of work Mia loves to do anything outdoors, including exploring different places and surrounding herself in nature. If she’s not outside hiking, or mountain bike riding you’ll find her starting a new hobby that changes every week!
